ABS Light Came On Before a Family Road Trip — Here’s What We Found
Preparing for a road trip should be exciting. For one family getting ready to tow a trailer with their Ford F-150, a warning light changed those plans temporarily — and probably prevented a much larger problem down the road.
Shortly before leaving on their trip, the ABS and traction control warning lights illuminated on the truck. Instead of ignoring the warning and hoping for the best, they made the decision to bring the vehicle in for testing before heading out with their trailer.
That decision mattered.
Warning Lights Matter — Especially When Towing
Modern vehicles are constantly monitoring critical systems such as braking, traction control, steering, and stability systems. When an ABS or traction control light appears, the vehicle is telling you something needs attention.
When towing a trailer, those systems become even more important.
Extra weight changes how a vehicle accelerates, handles, and most importantly — how it stops. A problem that may feel minor during everyday driving can become much more serious under towing conditions, during emergency braking, or while traveling through mountain passes, rain, or heavy traffic.
What We Found During Testing
After performing fault-code scans and system testing on this 2012 Ford F-150, we verified a fault within the ABS hydraulic control module. The brake pressure sensor readings were well outside the manufacturer’s expected range, confirming the module was not operating properly.
During the inspection process, we also identified additional concerns including worn brake pads and brake rotor wear that would affect braking performance while towing.
Further inspection uncovered coolant seepage at turbo coolant line fittings as well.
None of these issues had yet turned into a roadside breakdown. That’s exactly why thorough inspections matter.
The Value of Thorough Inspections
At Sound Auto Care, we believe inspections should do more than simply “clear a warning light.”
Our inspection and diagnostic process is designed to:
- Verify the root cause of a problem
- Identify related concerns
- Document findings with photos and videos
- Help customers make informed decisions about their vehicle
For this F-150, the customer received a detailed digital inspection report showing the testing process, fault findings, brake measurements, and repair recommendations. That transparency helps eliminate guesswork and allows customers to clearly understand the condition of their vehicle.
Before Your Next Trip…
As we move into spring and summer travel season, now is a good time to pay attention to warning lights, brake performance, unusual noises, or changes in how your vehicle drives — especially if towing is involved.
Sometimes the smartest travel decision is postponing the trip long enough to make sure the vehicle is safe and ready for the road ahead.
At Sound Auto Care, we help drivers throughout SeaTac and surrounding communities with detailed inspections, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs for gasoline, hybrid, diesel, European, and Asian vehicles.
Safe travels start before the key turns.
